The Ensérune archaeological site and museum, one of the most important Gaulish oppidums in the southern Mediterranean!
Discovered in the 1850s, the Ensérune oppidum is located near the village of Nissan lez Ensérune, between Béziers and Narbonne.
Since 1909, archaeological research has revealed some of the secrets of the fortified city (oppidum). The museum’s new permanent exhibition explores the key role played by Ensérune from 575 BC to 200 AD. J-C.”
From the top of the hill, the new tour route offers an exceptional panoramic view of the Mediterranean coastline, the Canigou massif and the foothills of the Montagne Noire.
Through the archaeological remains of one of the most important oppida in the Midi, you can explore the different districts restored after the excavations: the remains of the town, the urban organisation, the houses, streets and dolias of our Gallic ancestors.
