Maison Noilly Prat : The birth of one of the first French Vermouths!

Nestling in the charming little port of Marseillan, a stone’s throw from the Etang de Thau and the Mediterranean, Maison Noilly Prat is a world-famous place where one of the first French Vermouths, Le Noilly Prat, has been made in the greatest secrecy for almost 200 years.

A fascinating tour of the cellars will take you to the “Enclos”, where thousands of casks containing light, fruity white wines are aged in the open air as the seasons change.

The barrels are then transferred to the “Salle des Secrets”, where the precious liquid is macerated, using an age-old method, with a blend of aromatic herbs with evocative names: coriander from Morocco, cardamom from India, cinnamon from Sri Lanka, bitter oranges from Tunisia, cocoa beans from Venezuela, iris from Italy, rosebuds from Turkey… an invitation to travel before enchanting our palates!

Tasting these vermouths is one of the highlights of the visit, and an unforgettable memory.

The Maison Noilly Prat is not just a place to visit. In its bar area, comfortably installed on the sunny terrace facing the petanque pitch, you can simply come and enjoy delicious cocktails made by a professional barman.

Finally, the fully-equipped rooms have been completely renovated in keeping with the spirit of the place, providing ideal conditions for your seminars or corporate events.

A little history …

In 1878, Noilly Prat won the gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition. Someone stood humbly in the shadow of this success: Anne Rosine.

Anne Rosine, daughter of Louis Noilly, a liqueur manufacturer in Marseille, was a pioneer for her time. This extraordinary entrepreneur blazed the trail for an innovative and egalitarian society by shaking up the norms.

In the 19th century, the status of women was limited to that of wife and mother.

For more than 35 years, she took the reins and managed the 120 workers in the 10,000m2 factory in Marseille with firmness and affability.

Her ambitious and precise vision opened Noilly Prat’s doors to the world and helped it to gain international recognition.

Today, she leaves behind a legacy that we value with the respect of great people.
