Fontcaude Abbey: Renaissance of an exceptional medieval heritage site in Languedoc.
In the heart of a garrigue plateau, close to Béziers and Saint-Chinian, Fontcaude Abbey is a listed site close to a sacred spring where canons settled as early as 1154.
The 12th-century canonical abbey, ruined after the French Revolution, has undergone a stunning restoration.
This exceptional site in the Languedoc is the last remaining example of Romanesque architecture in the region. It now boasts a Romanesque abbey church, a cloister, an oil mill, a museum of Gothic sculptures and a 12th-century bell foundry.
Situated on a pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, Fontcaude Abbey is a Mecca for Gregorian chant.
