The Ambrussum archaeological site and museum: 2,500 years of human occupation.

Ambrussum is a major archaeological site in the Hérault region, occupied for over 2,500 years. This site is a perfect illustration of the Romanisation of the territories of southern Gaul.

Situated on the Via Domitia (near Lunel), the oldest Roman road in Gaul linking Rome to Cadiz, Ambrussum is a must-see.

The site’s Gallo-Roman past is illustrated by numerous remains, preserved in a protected natural setting: the Romanised oppidum (ancient fortified Gallic village), the Via Domitia and its road station, the Ambroix bridge, etc.

The museum traces the history of Ambrussum, from the first human settlements to the archaeological excavations on site (resumed in 2016).
