Grotte de Trabuc “l’aquatique”: A treasure trove of caves!
Situated between Anduze and Saint Jean du Gard, beneath the Cévenol relief of the National Park, the Grotte de Trabuc is a major cave in the destination.
Known since ancient times, as evidenced by the prehistoric bones found on site, it was also used in the 17th century during the Cévennes War (Reformation) as a refuge by the Camisards. Its name dates back to the 19th century, when the “Trabucaires”, bandits equipped with a “Trabuc” (pistol with a wide mouthpiece) took refuge in the cave.
At Trabuc, water is very present and tirelessly leaves its mark on the stone. It trickles down from draperies to waterfalls, all the way to the sumptuous Lac de Minuit.
This mineral setting is also marked by another special feature: the army of 100,000 soldiers!

FEBRUARY – MARCH – OCTOBER – NOVEMBER :
Open every day: Afternoons
During school holidays (all zones), self-guided audio tours from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm, last departure.
APRIL-MAY-JUNE-SEPTEMBER:
Self-guided audio tours non-stop from 10am to 5.30pm (last departure), and guided tours on request for groups and tribes (15 people or more).
Carbide-lamp tours: La Double Visite: relight the flame as programmed at the end of the day.
JULY-AUGUST :
Guided tours, classic during the day: Regular departures from 10am every 20 minutes depending on attendance until 6pm (last departure).
Historical tours in the evening, as part of “La Grotte s’enflamme” and by the light of carbide lamps (La Double Visite) in the footsteps of the explorer.
DECEMBER:
Open every weekend before Christmas and Christmas holidays, for the spectacular illuminations of the Magic of Lights underground, to meet Father Christmas of the caves.
