Maison Rouge – all the Cévennes in one museum!
Maison Rouge – Musée des vallées cévenoles is the museum dedicated to the Cévennes, a World Heritage Site.
Located in Saint Jean du Gard, in the oldest silk spinning mill in France, Maison Rouge rose from the ashes half a century later to house the Museum’s collections.
The Museum, which opened in 2018, has been enhanced by a deliberately contemporary renovation and extension. A perfect harmony between chestnut wood and concrete.
It boasts an incredible collection of almost 10,000 objects. All aspects of daily life in the Cévennes valleys are represented: housing, the different types of farms and the history of the Cévennes.
On site, discover the landscaped garden with a rich ethnobotanical collection that echoes the museum’s collection.
